1. Checkout Review Evidence

I reviewed the Shopify checkout flow by selecting Pure Wildflower Honey (20% off), priced at $9.99, and then reviewing the checkout configuration and payment-related settings without completing a transaction. The checkout preview displayed contact and delivery fields, a Standard (Example) shipping method costing $10.00, a secure-transaction notice, and a final order total of $19.99. I also reviewed the Checkout and Payments pages in Shopify Admin.

Checkout Process Evidence

Pure Wildflower Honey product page showing the $9.99 price, quantity selector, Add to cart button, Buy it now button, and product information.

Active checkout configuration preview showing the email contact field, marketing opt-in, delivery-address fields, and $19.99 order summary.

Checkout preview showing a $10.00 Standard shipping method, the secure and encrypted payment message, and notice that the store cannot currently accept payments.

Final order review showing a $9.99 subtotal, $10.00 shipping charge, $19.99 total, and Pay now button; no transaction was completed.

Shopify Payments settings showing that setup is incomplete and no real payment provider was activated for the assignment.

Checkout settings showing Email as the customer contact method, Shop order tracking enabled, customer sign-in not required, and first and last name required.

Checkout finding: The storefront clearly displays contact, delivery, shipping, security, and order-summary information. However, the payment preview states that the store cannot currently accept payments, and the Payments settings show that Shopify Payments still requires setup. This was appropriate for the assignment because no real payment method or transaction was required.

Checkout element reviewed Observation Trust implication
Contact information Checkout requests an email address and offers an optional marketing choice. Customers can receive order updates while keeping promotional consent separate.
Delivery information Country, name, address, city, state, ZIP code, and optional phone fields are shown. Standardized information reduces fulfillment errors.
Shipping method Available methods are shown only after the customer enters an address. Customers need a clear policy before checkout so they understand likely fulfillment options in advance.
Payment The page states that transactions are secure and encrypted. A visible security statement reduces payment anxiety.
Order summary Product, quantity, subtotal, shipping status, and total are displayed. Itemized costs help prevent surprise charges.

2. Shipping, Delivery, and Pickup Information

IMPLEMENTED SHIPPING & PICKUP SETTINGS

Order Fulfillment

Local pickup. Fresh produce, dairy, frozen items, refrigerated products, and other highly perishable products are offered for local pickup unless the checkout page specifically provides another option. Customers should wait until they receive a “Ready for Pickup” email before traveling to the store. At pickup, customers should provide the order number and the name used for the order. Orders may be collected during the Farm Store’s posted business hours.

Pickup timing. To protect product quality, customers should collect perishable orders as soon as possible after receiving the pickup notification. If an order cannot be collected on time, the customer should contact the store. Products are subject to seasonal availability, and the store will contact the customer before making a material substitution.

Shipping. Only products identified as eligible for shipping—such as certain shelf-stable gifts or gift boxes—may be shipped. Shipping availability, charges, and estimated timing must be displayed at checkout. Delivery estimates are not guarantees and may be affected by carrier delays, weather, holidays, or an incorrect address. Customers are responsible for reviewing the shipping address before submitting an order.

Order problems. Customers should contact the store promptly if an order is missing, delayed, damaged, or incorrect and provide the order number plus a short description of the problem.

Shipping and Pickup Settings Evidence

The Shopify shipping profile applies to all products and uses one fulfillment location with two shipping zones. Automated estimated-delivery dates and one package are configured, while no carrier account is connected. In the additional delivery methods, Local delivery is Off and Pickup in store is On. The policy draft above explains how these settings should be communicated to customers.

Additional delivery methods showing Local delivery turned off and Pickup in store turned on.

3. Return and Refund Policy

IMPLEMENTED STORE POLICY

Returns, Refunds, and Cancellations

Perishable products. For food-safety and quality reasons, fresh produce, dairy, frozen items, refrigerated items, and other perishable goods are not eligible for a standard return after pickup or delivery. If a perishable item is spoiled, damaged, missing, or materially different from the order, the customer should contact the store within 24 hours and provide the order number and, when possible, a photo. After review, the store may offer a replacement, store credit, or refund.

Shelf-stable and nonfood products. Unopened, unused, shelf-stable or nonfood merchandise may be returned within 7 days with proof of purchase, provided that the item is in its original condition and packaging. Final-sale, personalized, or opened food items are not returnable. Alcohol-related returns, if applicable, will be handled only as permitted by law and store procedures.

Cancellations. Customers may request cancellation before the order has been prepared. Once a perishable order has been prepared or a shipment has been transferred to the carrier, cancellation may not be available.

Refund method. Approved refunds will be issued to the original payment method. The customer’s bank or card issuer may require additional processing time. Original delivery or shipping charges are refundable only when the store made an error or the order was damaged in transit.

Return and Refund Policy Evidence

The return and refund policy was added to the store’s policy settings. It distinguishes between perishable and non-perishable products, provides a 24-hour reporting window for spoiled or incorrect perishables, permits eligible non-perishable returns within seven days, and explains cancellations, refunds, and contact procedures.

Beginning of the published return and refund policy, including the perishable-products rules and 24-hour problem-reporting window.

Continuation of the policy covering non-perishable products, excluded items, order cancellations, and approved refunds.

Final portion of the return and refund policy showing cancellation rules, refund terms, and the Farm Store’s contact information.

4. Privacy Policy and Customer Data Statement

IMPLEMENTED AUTOMATED PRIVACY POLICY

Customer Privacy Statement

CPP Bronco Fresh Market collects only the information reasonably needed to operate the online store. This may include a customer’s name, email address, phone number, billing or delivery address, order details, pickup information, device information, and customer-service communications. The store uses this information to process orders, coordinate pickup or delivery, provide service updates, prevent fraud, improve the storefront, and meet legal or accounting requirements.

Payments are processed through Shopify or an authorized payment provider. The storefront should not store a customer’s complete payment-card number. Personal information may be shared with service providers only when necessary to operate the store—for example, payment processors, Shopify, and delivery providers. The store will not sell customer personal information for money.

Marketing messages should be sent only when the customer chooses to receive them, and the customer should be able to unsubscribe. Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards should be used to protect customer data; however, no online system can guarantee absolute security. Customers may contact the store to ask a privacy question or request access, correction, or deletion when applicable. Information should be retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above.

Policy last updated: August 15, 2026

Privacy Policy Evidence

Shopify’s automated privacy policy is enabled and synchronized with the store settings and current Shopify template. The policy identifies Cal Poly Pomona Farm Store as the store operator, explains that the storefront is powered by Shopify, describes the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information, and includes policy-change and contact sections.

Beginning of the automated privacy policy, last updated August 15, 2026, explaining the store operator, Shopify-powered services, and treatment of personal information.

Final privacy policy sections explaining future policy changes and how customers can contact the store about privacy questions or rights.

6. Trust Signals Reflection

Clear policies reduce uncertainty at the exact moment when an online shopper is deciding whether to continue with a purchase. A visible pickup and shipping policy tells customers how and when they can receive an order; the return/refund policy explains what happens if a product is damaged or unsatisfactory; and the privacy statement shows that customer information will be used carefully. The official address, phone number, email address, store hours, secure-payment message, and itemized checkout total also demonstrate that the store is identifiable and reachable. Together, these trust signals make the customer experience feel more predictable and professional. They can also reduce abandoned carts because shoppers do not need to search for basic answers or worry about surprise costs, unclear pickup procedures, or having no way to resolve a problem after purchase.

7. CPP Farm Store Application Reflection

The most important trust signals for CPP Farm Store are accurate pickup instructions, current business hours, real-time product availability, freshness expectations, and a clear solution for damaged or spoiled products. The store sells seasonal produce, orange juice, dairy, frozen products, gift baskets, and other items whose availability and quality can change quickly, so customers need to know whether an item is in stock and when it should be collected. Official CPP branding, the campus address, the cpp.edu contact email, and the store phone number help customers recognize that the online store is connected to a real university location. Product-origin information such as “CPP grown,” clear descriptions, visible prices, secure checkout language, and confirmation emails would further strengthen credibility. For shipped gift products, the store should also display eligibility, shipping cost, estimated timing, and packaging expectations before payment.
